To stimulate and nourish the musical knowledge and artistic talents of disadvantaged youth through music instrumental study, and to provide opportunities for young music students to work toward a higher level of excellence in their schoolwork and personal lives.

Creative Arts Summer Camp

Creative Arts Summer Camp
Art, music, dance, and visual arts; are housed at the Quitman County Arts and Culture Center. The camp culminates with a public/show exhibition arts crawl and music jamboree.

Roots of the Mississippi

Dive into the heart of Mississippi’s musical history by exploring the origins of blues, gospel, jazz, and soul music. These genres shaped the region’s cultural identity and continue to influence the world today.

Strings of Hope: A Journey Through Music

An innovative and impactful music program designed to introduce young children to the world of string instruments, empowering them through the power of music while cultivating essential life skills. Through this program, children will learn the basics of string instruments such as the violin, viola, cello, and double bass in a fun, supportive, and engaging environment.

Mr. Bo's Student Food Pantry

Mr. Bo’s Student Food Pantry at the Quitman County Arts and Culture Center addresses the critical issue of food insecurity among children and youth in Quitman County and neighboring communities. The program is named in honor of Mr. Weddle “Bo” Jackson, a local farmer who selflessly shared produce from his garden with residents in the area.

The pantry offers the support of an on-site nutritionist who helps students facing food insecurity choose nutritious meals and snacks. By ensuring that all students have access to healthy food, Mr. Bo’s Student Food Pantry enables them to focus on their education, foster personal growth, and thrive in their academic journey.

Voices of Change: Empowering Young Women Through the Arts and Social Justice

Voices of Change (VOC) empowers young women by providing them with the tools, training, and platform needed to use the arts as a powerful vehicle for advocacy, personal growth, and social transformation. Through this program, participants gain the skills and confidence to create meaningful change, advocate for themselves and others, and contribute to the broader conversation on social justice

Kids in the Kitchen Program

Empowers children/youth in the community with essential life skills, creativity, and an appreciation for cultural diversity through cooking. This program blends culinary arts with educational opportunities, teaching kids how to cook nutritious meals while fostering teamwork, creativity, and cultural awareness.

Creative Placemaking Houses: Transforming Spaces, Building Community

The Creative Placemaking Houses initiative is an innovative program by the Quitman County Arts Council & Culture Center, designed to transform vacant or underused properties in Quitman County into vibrant, artistically inspired spaces that foster community engagement, economic development, and cultural pride. This initiative blends the power of the arts with community revitalization efforts, creating multi-purpose ``Creative Placemaking Houses`` that serve as hubs for creativity, learning, collaboration, and celebration. By engaging local residents, artists, and youth, the program will transform forgotten spaces into dynamic, accessible venues where art, culture, and community converge.

The Visual Storytellers Program: Filming, Photography, and Videography

The Visual Storytellers Program: Filming, Photography, and Videography program empowers and educates local youth and adults in the arts of photography, videography, and filmmaking. Through a hands-on, immersive curriculum, participants will gain technical skills and creative expertise that enable them to capture the stories, events, and experiences that define Quitman County and the broader Mississippi Delta.

Arts Beyond the Classroom

An after-school program for children/youth, who, due to accessibility/geography/economics, would not otherwise have access to off-school arts classes.

Artists-in-Residence

Our residency program brings together six teaching artists from different disciplines to teach and mentor students in the area school district and after school.

By offering fun, hands-on activities and educational tools that engage both the child and their caregiver, the program will help develop essential cognitive, social, and motor skills while introducing young children to the arts in an interactive and playful way.

An immersive, multidisciplinary program designed to explore and celebrate the intersection of poetry, speech, drama, and theater. The goal is to help participants—whether actors, poets, or audience members—experience the power of spoken word through performance, connection, and exploration of language.

STEAM

STEAM: Creative Minds, Future Success`` is an innovative educational program designed by the Quitman County Arts Council and Cultural Center that integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) with the arts (visual arts, music, and literacy) to enhance creativity, problem-solving, and academic achievement among students. This comprehensive program combines hands-on learning experiences in STEAM subjects with artistic expression to promote both cognitive and emotional growth, while providing targeted support for students preparing for the ACT.
